Emurgo, the official commercial and venture arm of the Cardano project, has, has launched the Emurgo Academy in India which will train at least 2500 developers by the end of this year. They will be establishing themselves in offices in Hyderabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Pune and will be offering both online and offline classes.
Blockchain startups in India are confronted with a dearth of skilled professionals and many entrepreneurs are being forced to look abroad to find experienced freelancers. Experts have said that although the country has up to 2000 blockchain professionals, only 200-400 are skilled in the core architecture. Akshay Aggarwal heads a community of blockchain enthusiasts and is concerned about the situation where developers can build smart contracts but are unable to find someone who can start from scratch.
“With around 1,000 job openings, if only 400 are employable, the mismatch in supply and demand is clear,” said Aggarwal.
Considerable Demand For Blockchain Professionals
The academy aims to teach beginners as well as industry professionals and ambitious developers will learn to build on top of Cardano. Training will also be provided by Small and Midsize Enterprises (SME) and accomplished experts already in the blockchain space.
“At Emurgo, we deeply believe the future of many leading industries will be profoundly impacted by blockchain technologies,” said Manmeet Singh, Emurgo’s Chief Investment Officer. “This in turn will very quickly create a massive demand for blockchain engineers which we are committed to training. Without properly skilled talent, no technology can gain global adoption and prevalence. It’s all about jobs, jobs and more jobs”.
The Vice Chancellor at Bangalore University, Dr K R Venugopal said that he was “delighted” with the launch of the Academy and says that it will provide a “platform to connect developers and organizations” where people can learn the technology and put it into practice in their own businesses.
LinkedIn announced last year that “blockchain developer” was the fastest growing job search on their platform. With only about 10 000 skilled developers worldwide and with the the demand for the technology growing, supply has been the biggest hurdle to overcome.
