California-based mobile payments company Square, Inc. wishes to hire engineers and developers for its crypto payments platform and is offering to pay them in cryptocurrencies if they wish, as per a tweet by CEO Jack Dorsey.
Dorsey announced that they are looking for three to four crypto engineers and a designer to “work full time on open source contributions to the Bitcoin/crypto ecosystem.” He further says that the experts can work from anywhere and will report directly to him.
Dorsey, also the founder of Twitter, has been a strong proponent of Bitcoin and believes that in the far future it will eventually become the world’s native currency.
Square’s Cash App already supports crypto purchases and payments. Dorsey had previously announced that the app would support Bitcoin’s Lightning Network. Incidentally, Dorsey is also an investor in Lightning Labs, a start-up that is developing an open protocol layer to make crypto transactions private, cheaper and faster.
Giving Back to the Crypto Community
In the tweet, Dorsey further said that the open source community had a vital role to play in the development of Square. However, Square had not given back enough. This initiative, he believes, “is a small way of giving back, and one that’s aligned with our broader interests: a more accessible global financial system for the internet.”
Square has done remarkably well in the last few quarters and has showed consistent growth. In the fourth quarter of 2018, total net revenue, at $933 million, grew at an astounding 51% YoY.
